This is Blackity Black
Growing up I've always heard, “Give flowers while the person is able to use their 5 senses; See, Smell, Taste, Hear and Feel.” We live in a world today where 'Celebrating Life' is in one's “death”. Our people do this more often than not! There are so many people in the community who go unnoticed, unrecognized, not honored, or even celebrated, even though they have made or are making major impacts in the community.
From recognizing this negative habit, Blackity Black was birthed in 2022.
Blackity Black is a celebration honoring the Black Unsung Heroes of the community. The City Of Hartford sponsored this Black History making event on April 23rd, 2022 at Parker Memorial Community Center in Hartford, CT. Not only was this the 1st Annual Event by Project R.E.H.A.B inc, but the first Successful Annual Event! Packing the room to a capacity of 200 guests, including Award Winning Filmmakers whose works are not limited to places like BET and other major networks. Most importantly the Phenomenal Honorees and supporters of the Community are the reasons this impactful event is made possible.
This Black Honoree Celebration does not exclude the Youth. Every year, three Youth are chosen to present the awards to the Honorees and represent each category. Beginning in 2023 and beyond, Project R.E.H.A.B will choose Two Students (one High School Senior and one College Freshman) to receive a Scholarship. Project R.E.H.A.B inc will also choose one Honoree to receive a Grant towards continuing the impact they are having in the community.
It is time for us to understand, for my people to innerstand that their works are not in vain and they are seen, heard, and appreciated. Blackity Black though Founded by Lioness, is only successful because of the Black Community Members.
Welcome to Blackity Black
